260 Drug Traffickers Convicted of Smuggling Narcotics By CJTF Appeal Court:
During the first six months of Islamic Year 1388, 237 suspects faced investigation by CJTF Investigation and Laboratory Department. The Primary court convicted 177 people on drug trafficking offenses, and acquitted 27 people, the Appeal Court convicted 260 people and acquitted 32 people. said Khalilu Rahman Motawakel during a joint press conference in Jalalabad.
A key component of the Government of Afghanistan’s National Drug Control Strategy is to target drug trafficking networks. The Government is therefore committed to disrupting the drugs industry across Afghanistan and ensuring there is no safe haven for those who profit from the trade. To achieve this objective, the counter narcotics Criminal Justice Task Force was set up by the Afghan government in May 2005, under the auspices of the Supreme Court, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Ministry of Interior.
In the second quarter of Islamic Year 1388, 124 drug traffickers have been convicted by the CJTF Appeal Court. Within this quarter, 19 drug traffickers from Kabul City, 19 from Nangarhar, 7 from Kandahar, 20 from Helmand, 12 from Hirat, 2 from Baghlan, 3 from Neemroz, one from Daikundi, one from Faryab, 2 from Farah, 3 from Balkh, 3 from Badakhshan, 3 from Takhar, 2 from Badghis, one from Bamiyan, 2 from Paktiya, one from Zabul, one from Kunar and 2 from Kunduz provinces have been convicted and received sentences up to life imprisonment and received fines worth millions of Afghani’s. There are two government officials including one Highway Police Commander among the convicted smugglers.

CJTF Second Local Workshop on Its Activities & Achievement in Herat Province: Criminal Justice Task Force hold its second local workshop on its activities and achievements in first seven months of 1388 on December 6, 2009. The workshop aimed to dedicate detailed information on CJTF introduction, staffing structure, its operations and achievement in year of 1387 and first seven months of 1388. Meanwhile a coordination committee for exchanging information between counter narcotics provincial involved and related official has been established.
In the third quarter of Islamic Year 1388, the convictions of 102 drug traffickers have been finalized by the Supreme Court of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Within this quarter, 4 drug traffickers from Kabul City, 10 from Nangarhar, 12 from Kandahar, 22 from Helmand, 13 from Hirat, 7 from Nimroz, one from Faryab, 6 from Farah, 6 from Balkh, one from Badakhshan, 2 from Takhar, 4 from Badghis, 5 from Bamiyan, 2 from Paktiya, one from Zabul, 5 from Kunduz provinces and one from Parwan have been convicted and received sentences of up to 19 years imprisonment and received fines of up to two millions Afghanis
